(CS/dhay) Ride operators and stall owners at the Schueberfouer have shown themselves largely satisfied with the opening weekend of the funfair, despite rainy spells on Sunday evening.
Roger Pelzer, president of the “Comité international des festivités de la Schueberfouer” said that the new attractions had been very popular with visitors, with good visitor number recorded throughout the weekend, mainly due to its sunny start.
However, Pelzer also said he was disappointed by critics complaining about high prices at the Fouer, saying that the VAT increase was naturally having an impact. Operators face higher costs, he said, adding that this inevitably leads to slightly higher prices.
Still, Pelzer said that prices are within acceptable limits.
Publicity campaigns for the 675th edition of the Fouer were not only launched in Luxembourg, but also in Germany, France and Belgium, which also contributed to the 80,000-euro publicity budget.
At the Monday press conference, charities “Ile aux Clowns” and Doctors Without Borders were handed a check of 10,000 euros each, which were collected last year on the “Journée de la Solidarité”.
This year's solidarity day is scheduled for September 1 and is hoped to be equally successful.
Other special events include mayors' day on Tuesday, when over 30 mayors from around Luxembourg will serve as waiters at the Fouer restaurants, as well as family day on Wednesday, offering reduced prices.
Organisers have also already announced plans to extend opening hours of the Fouer next year. While currently restaurants and food stalls open at 12pm and rides at 2pm, it is planned to bring this forward to 11am.
