(AFP) A social media fundraising effort is
to thank for major breakthroughs in the fight against Amyotrophic
Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), say researchers at Johns Hopkins University in
the US.
Led by Professor Philip Wong who, like 17 million other people,
doused himself with a bucked of ice cold water, filmed it and posted it
on social media to help raise what would ultimately be more than $220
million, the team says their research has advanced.
