(CS) With the 675th edition of Luxembourg City's annual Schueberfouer to start Friday, here a summary of facts and information to keep in mind.
There are 185 rides, games and restaurants on the Glacis, as well as an additional 89 chalets along Allée Scheffer, selling a variety of items. There are three new attractions this year, including the “Wilde Maus XXL”, The Tower and a haunted house.
Fouer.lu and the Fouer app
The fouer.lu website and the Fouer app are useful resources, giving information on all the rides, opening hours, bus timetables and more. On the app, for example, users can be guided to the nearest ATM or the nearest toilets. The app was first launched last year and an updated version is now available for free for Android and iPhone.
The free CITYLUXFREE WiFi network, set up for the EU presidency, will be available throughout the Fouer, allowing easy access to the app and website on the go.
Selfies
Selfie sticks are banned on Fouer rides as they present a health and safety risk. Additionally, people are being urged not to take selfies by hand on the rides. A falling phone can easily injure people below, organisers said, adding there are plenty of opportunities for selfies on firm ground.
Pictures published on Instagram using the hashtag #Schueberfouer meanwhile will also be published on the Fouer app for visitors to share their fun.
Transport

Visitors to the Fouer are strongly encouraged to use public transport to travel to the funfair. Traffic and parking around the Glacis and Limpertsberg have been restricted, with paid parking hours extended.
City bus services 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 30 (which have stops near Glacis) will be free after 6pm on weekdays, all day Saturday and on Sundays from 1pm onwards. On a number of lines additional late services have been added.
Two additional bus lines (37 and 38) have been set up connecting the Glacis with the Park & Rides Bouillon and Lux Sud. Furthermore, the national RGTR bus network has also added capacity on its routes, with later services available.

Safety and security
Rides at the Schueberfouer are checked three times during construction, with additional checks carried out throughout the duration of the Fouer to ensure maximum safety. Restaurants and food and drink booths are also frequently checked for health and safety.
Police show an increased presence at the Fouer with a temporary police station set up on site. For parents or people visiting the Fouer with children a service is available to register them with police, facilitating finding the parents of a lost child.
On weekends, colleagues from Germany, Belgium and France will join the Luxembourg force, with numerous visitors from the Greater Region expected at the funfair.
However, police still advise people to avoid taking unnecessary valuables to the Fouer, to make sure that all belongings are stored safely and to keep a watchful eye despite the distractions the fair offers.
Special events

While the official opening ceremony on August 31 at 5pm is an early highlight of the Fouer there are more special events on the calendar. Among them is the mayors' day on August 25, when around 30 mayors from across the country will put on their aprons and serve food at different restaurants at the Fouer.
On August 26, family day will see the price of rides reduced throughout the day. On August 27 is queens' day at the Fouer, while August 31 coincides with the City's Braderie outdoor sale. A full calendar is available here.
Fun for a good cause
On September 1, Doctors without Border and the Île aux Clowns will be present on the Fouer with information stalls about their activities, with ride operators donating part of their proceeds to the charities.
Additionally, 0.50 euros from every bottle of Bernard Massard's “Cuvée Schueberfouer”, available at the Fouer, will go to not-for-profit “Zesummen fir Inklusioun”.
Visitors with disabilities
Parking spaces are reserved for visitors with reduced mobility and a disability badge near the Fouer. Additionally, the Fouer Call-A-Bus service is available daily from 3.15pm until 10.30pm between the P&R Bouillon and Glacis for wheelchair users.
Wheelchairs and walkers are also available to borrow from 2pm at the emergency services offices near the main entrance. There is also a wheelchair accessible toilet near Avenue de la Faïencerie and Allée des Résistants et des Déportés.
Several restaurants are also wheelchair accessible. For full information visit fouer.lu
Fireworks

The Fouer will close on Wednesday, September 9 with a fireworks display launched from the Red Bridge starting 10pm. Rides at the Fouer are half-price on the final day.
Opening hours
The Fouer is open Sunday to Thursday from 11am until 1am and Fridays and Saturday from 11am and 2am.
It officially kicks off Friday, August 21, at 5pm and closes on September 9.
