(CS) Luxembourg City's “Naturmusée” in the Grund is set to close its permanent exhibition space for over a year for refurbishment, while a new temporary exhibition will open in December.
The refurbishment of the permanent exhibition space comes after the renovation of the temporary exhibition space, which started roughly a year ago. With the rooms now ready, work is underway to install a new exhibit dedicated to Luxembourg explorers who studied South America in the 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The exhibition will chronicle the lives of some of the Grand Duchy's adventurers, explorers, botanists and scientists, while also showing some original samples collected by them and giving insights into the world in which they lived and worked.
The exhibition will run until July 2016, after which the museum will be closed completely for several months.
From October 2016 until February 2017 then, the Naturmusée will be home to another temporary exhibition by artist Michael Benson, who works with NASA images to create stunning views of space and our solar system. Before heading to Luxembourg, this exhibition will make a stop at London's Natural History Museum.
The Luxembourg Naturmusée's permanent exhibition rooms meanwhile will be closed from this week until the end of next year for a complete overhaul.
The collection of stuffed animals will remain on display at other venues around the country starting August 22, including the Diekirch history museum, the CNA in Dudelange, the Kulturhuef in Grevenmacher, the national centre of literature in Mersch, as well as a handful of museums and cultural centres in the capital.
