(JB) Luxembourg City's Tourist Office has said more than 100,000 visitors have passed through their doors on the Place Guillaume II since January this year.
The five employees who work behind the
desk in the office of course need to be extremely knowledgeable in
order to answer barrages of questions, sometimes bizarre, fired at
them from uninformed tourists, often with only a few hours to fill.
The LCTO both in the office and the
many “Ask Me” guides that wonder around the city, have to take
into consideration that tourists in a foreign city are confronted by many
different languages and expect to see a lot in a short time-frame,
sometimes with whining kids or adults for that matter.
From January 1 until now, so near
mid-August, LCTO estimates that 133,00 tourists have been informed.
Currently, information is passed on in no less than nine languages;
Luxembourgish, German, French, English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish,
Japanese, and Chinese.
"Questions of course, can revolve
around anything," said Natasha Bonifas from LCTO. “There are,
for example, tourists who want to know whether Luxembourg uses the
euro or others who want to visit the 'Grand Duchy' but actually mean
the Grand Ducal Palace”.
Certain questions arise depending on
the season but currently these are the top five most frequently
asked questions at Luxembourg City Tourist Office:
"We are here for two to four hours
in the City. What can we do in that time? "
"We want to visit the Grand Ducal
Palace. When is that possible? "
"How do we get to the casemates
and when are the opening times?"
"Where is the nearest campsite?"
"What is there to do for children
in the city?”
And of course the most popular item
requested is a foldable map of the City.
