Two occupants of a Smart car were left
with serious injuries on Sunday afternoon, after crashing head-on
and with force into a tree in the south of the country.
The incident happened at about 3pm on
the N13 route between Frisange and Hellange.
For unknown reasons at this stage, the
driver lost total control of the vehicle, causing it to skid of the
road and collide with a tree.
The impact was so fierce the tree was
knocked down and it fell across the roadway.
A nurse who happened to be passing at
the time was able to provide first aid at the scene, but in order to
extract the two victims from the car, firefighters with special
hydraulic equipment was required to remove the roof of the Smart.
A Luxembourg Air Rescue quickly arrived
at the scene and flew both victims to hospital.
The road was closed to traffic for
about an hour while a clean-up operation and investigation took
place.
