August 7: Screening Merry Widow, from New York Met Opera, Ciné Utopia, 6.30pm
CINEMA
August 7: To be or not to be, Luxembourg City Open Air Cinema, Place des Capucins, 9.30pm
Continuing with the Orange open air cinema season, the screen and seats now move to Place des Capucins. This 1942 comedy follows a troupe of Polish actors trying to outwit the occupying Nazi forces in WWII Warsaw. www.vdl.lu
August 8: The Big Lebowski, Luxembourg City Open Air Cinema, Place des Capucins, 9.30pm
This Coen brothers classic follows Jeff Lebowski, also known as The Dude, whose easy-living life is interrupted when he is the victim of mistaken identity.
August 9: Star Wars IV: A new hope, Diekirch Open Air Cinema, 9.30pm
It is not only Luxembourg City that can boast its own outdoor cinema. Diekirch too has an outdoor screen, showing some American films in original version. This original 1977 movie directed by George Lucas will be in English with French and Dutch subtitles.
MUSIC
August 7-9: E-Lake festival in Echternach
A mix of international acts will take to the stage in this free festival. Festivities kick off at 5pm on Friday when local bands blend with internationals. Saturday will be dedicated to electronic music and on Sunday there will be a party from 3pm. e-lake.lu www.facebook.com/elake.lu
August 7: No Metal in this Battle, Rotondes, 7.30pm
As part of the Congés Annulés summer gig season at the Rotondes, this afro post-punk quartet performs in Luxembourg. August 8: Summer Ceili, The Black Stuff, 8pm Comhaltas Luxembourg presents this Irish music and folk dancing event at Irish Bar The Black Stuff. Music starts at 8pm. August 8: Blues 'n' Rock Beaufort, Centre Equestre International, 14 roue d'Eppeldorf, 4pm
The third edition of the Blues 'n' Rock Beaufort open-air festival, featuring The Backscratchers, The Heritage Blues Company, Chicken Head and The Kid Colling Cartel. Happy hour runs from 4pm to 5pm with the first band playing at 5.30pm.
August 8: Queen Extravaganza, den Atelier, 8pm
The unofficial Queen Tribute Show, produced by Queen drummer Roger Taylor, pays tribute to the original band. www.atelier.lu
August 8: Rival Consoles, Rotondes, 8pm
UK musician Ryan Lee West, aka Rival Consoles, promises to deliver an atmospheric show with his electronic brand of sound and rhythm and pulse. Performance as part of the Congés Annulés festival. rotondes.lu
August 9: Movie screening of Industrial Soundtrack For The Urban Decay, Rotondes, 8pm
This is the first film to retrace the origins of industrial music, from the '70s onwards. Part of the Congés Annulés festival. rotondes.lu

EXHIBITIONS
until September 24: Gare Art Festival, Luxembourg City
Sculptors who created works of art in Place de Paris, will have the fruits of their labour exhibited in the new glass waiting hall of the city's central train station until September 24.

until August 14: Trompe l'Oeil, Konschthaus Beim Engel
Six artists from Luxembourg, France, Germany and the Netherlands are exploring the world of visual illusions in their artworks on display at the Konschthaus Beim Engel in Rue de la Loge in the centre of Luxembourg City.
until August 14: Edith Wiesen, Neimënster
Austrian artist Edith Wiesen has been living and working in Luxembourg for several years, with Neimënster showing a number of her paintings. Wiesen in her work often explores the human shape but also other motifs such as boats or planes, rending them in a minimalist style on canvas.
until September 19: Le Quotidien de la Grande Guerre, Bibliothèque Nationale de Luxembourg
Visit the national library in Luxembourg City to see documents showing what everyday life was like in the Grand Duchy during the First World War. Posters and postcards, etchings, books, brochures and other documents are on display at the library to give an insight into this period of Luxembourg history. The library is open Monday to Friday 10.30am to 6.30pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm.
OTHER
August 7-9: Picadilly festival, Stadtbredimus
Around 20,000 people are expected to attend this village party over the three days. Essential a festival of wine, Picadilly is a unique chance to taste a specially created alcoholic drink, similar to kir royal with an alcohol proportion of 10.5 percent. Made in the cellars of the Vinsmoselle cooperative using a secret recipe, the drink is a mix of elbling and rivaner grape varieites, as well as blackcurrant liqueur (crème de cassis). Each year 14,000 bottles of the stuff are produed. Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend. Shuttle buses will be put on running revellers between the venue and Mersch, Steinfort, Capellen, Strassen and Bertrange. A return ticket costs 5 euros. www.picadilly.lu
August 7: Luxembourg City promenade by night
The Luxembourg City Tourism office is organising guided tours of the capital on Friday nights during the summer. Departs Place Guillaume II. To find out more, visit www.lcto.lu

August 8 & 9: Streea(rt)nimation, Luxembourg City, from 1pm
The streets of the capital will come alive with jugglers, acrobats, dancers and more over the weekend when the Streea(rt)nimation returns with 25 international performing companies. The majority of performances will take place in Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II, Grand Rue, rue des Capucins and rue du Marché-aux-herbes. There will also be mobile shows. Participation is free and entertainment finishes at around 11pm.
August 8: Guided visit of Ellergronn nature reserve, 8.30am
Join this exceptional walking tour of a stunning nature reserve located not far from the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette and the French border spanning a former mining area.
August 9: Studio Challenge Wall to wall activity, workshops at MUDAM, from 11am
Unleash your imagination in a specially created public creative space at Luxembourg's modern art museum in Kirchberg. Materials are provided. www.mudam.lu
August 9: Klik-klak activities for families, Casino Luxembourg, from 3pm
Every Sunday between 3pm and 6pm, the Casino Luxembourg offers open creative workshops for families who can sit down and make whatever their heart desires after a visit to the exhibitions. www.casino-luxembourg.lu
