(JB) Luxembourg's historical Wenzel Walk once boasted 1,000 years in 100 minutes. Now walkers will have to hurry if they want to get around the circuit in the same time after it was extended.
The longer, 5.5 kilometre hike which takes three hours, was officially inaugurated on Thursday, when journalists were shown the new features.
Among them is the Dinselpuert, also known as "Old" Gate of Trier or Jacob's Tower, on the road between Cents and Clausen.
After extensive renovation works, the area is accessible again. Built in the 15th century, the gate tower of the Wenzel wall was formerly a drawbridge.
Walkers can see parts of the ancient fortifications on the Rham Plateau which have been renovated and rebuilt.
One novelty is the narrow, covered staircase leading up to a small hill from which walkers can enjoy views over the ruins.
By the care home on the Rham plateau, walkers can also get stunning views of the capital by climbing another tower, which is now open to the public.
