There were dramatic scenes in the centre of Luxembourg City in the early hours of Tuesday morning as fire ripped through the roof of a residential building on Rue Jean Origer.
Witnesses raised the alarm at about 2.40am noticing flames escaping from roof area of the apartment building.
Firefighters rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze, fearful that the fire could spread to neighbouring buildings on Avenue de la Gare.
All residents in the affected building and those surrounding it, were evacuated and the fire department continued their battle well into the morning.
Road blocks on Rue Jean Origer and several other streets in the area were set up and it wasn’t until about 7.15am that Avenue de la Liberté and rue de Bonnevoie were opened up again to traffic.
There are no reports of injuries, and no details of what may have sparked the fire.
