Do the Time Warp in Luxembourg City this weekend as the Cinémathèque's outdoor cinema season kicks off. There's more open air film in Diekirch and Dudelange, while the Grund and Clausen will host the Blues'n Jazz Rallye.

PERFORMING ARTS
July 24: La Fille du Régiment, Ciné Utopia, 6.30pm
As part of its summer encore series, Ciné Utopis shows La Fille du Régiment, performed by the New York City Metropolitan Opera. The 1839 comedy by Gaetano Donizetti tells the story of a young girl, adopted by an army regiment as their mascot. But things get complicated when the girl feels the first stirrings of love. CINEMA
July 24: Bananas, Cinémathèque, 8.30pm
The Luxembourg City Cinémathèque shows only one film this weekend, Woody Allen's Bananas, starring Allen as Fielding Mellish, a neurotic New Yorker who tries to win back a former flame by travelling to fictional South American country San Marcos, where he accidentally becomes involved with a revolutionary movement. July 24: Open Air Kino Dikrich, Place des Ecoles – Diekirch, 10pm

July 24 & 25: Open Air Cinema, CNA Dudelange, 10pm
The CNA in Dudelange on Friday shows the latest Marvel release Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas on Friday, followed on Saturday by Woody Allen's newest feature Irrational Man, with Emma Stone as a young ingenue who falls in love with Joaquin Phoenix as the irrational man. July 24 – 26: City Open Air Cinema, Palais Grand Ducal, 9.30pm
Just outside the Grand Ducal palace in Luxembourg City a big outdoor screen on Friday will show Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, followed on Saturday by cult musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On Sunday, Alfred Hitchcock classic Vertigo will be screened. All films are free and start at 9.30pm. With limited seating available it is advised to arrive early. MUSIC
July 24: Madras String Quartet, Centre Culturel Capellen, doors open 6.30pm
The Madras String Quartet brings together the classical music traditions of India and the west, drawing inspiration from the classical chamber music repertoire and the southern Indian classical music system. Tickets are available at the door. Read more about the concerthere.

July 24 – 26: Capital Sounds, Rotondes
Replacing this year's Food For Your Senses Festival, Capital Sounds kicks off on Friday with a party at Gudde Wëllen. The festival continues at Rotondes on Saturday and Sunday with acts including Mighty Oaks, Napoleon Gold, Monophona, When Airy Met Fairy, Natas Loves You and more. July 24: Alizeti – Playing for IOP, The Black Stuff, 7pm
Watch quartet Alizeti perform cover versions of catchy songs at the Black Stuff on Friday, raising funds for the Ilula Orphan Project in Tanzania. Alizeti was formed in 2012 by Helen Clarke and Clair-Louise Walsh. They were recently joined by Callum Heffernan and Kristine Ozolina.

July 25: Blues'n Jazz Rallye, Luxembourg City, from 7pm
Head to Luxembourg City on Saturday, when the Grund and Clausen will be buzzing with blues and jazz music. There are eleven outdoor stages with another 18 bars and restaurants hosting gigs throughout the evening. until August 14: Trompe l'Oeil, Konschthaus Beim Engel
Six artists from Luxembourg, France, Germany and the Netherlands are exploring the world of visual illusions in their artworks on display at the Konschthaus Beim Engel in Rue de la Loge in the centre of Luxembourg City.
until August 14: Edith Wiesen, Neimënster
Austrian artist Edith Wiesen has been living and working in Luxembourg for several years, with Neimënster showing a number of her paintings. Wiesen in her work often explores the human shape but also other motifs such as boats or planes, rending them in a minimalist style on canvas. Read more here.
until September 19: Le Quotidien de la Grande Guerre, Bibliothèque Nationale de Luxembourg
Visit the national library in Luxembourg City to see documents showing what everyday life was like in the Grand Duchy during the First World War. Posters and postcards, etchings, books, brochures and other documents are on display at the library to give an insight into this period of Luxembourg history. The library is open Monday to Friday 10.30am to 6.30pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm.
OTHER
July 25: Amnesty International Flashmob, Place d'Armes, 11am & 1pm
The Luxembourg branch of Amnesty International will be raising awareness for 43 students who disappeared in Mexico around 10 months ago. The teenagers have not yet been found, with the NGO saying that Mexican authorities have failed to carry out a serious and impartial investigation. Around 30 people will be taking part in a symbolic gesture on Place d'Armes at 11.15am and 12pm, followed by a speech on the subject.

July 25 - August 2: Festival Médiéval, Château de Vianden
Vianden castle from this weekend hosts its annual medieval fair, including knights, dames, jugglers and show fights, as well as food and drink of the era, music and other performances. For the full programme visit castle-vianden.lu
July 26 & 27: Welleschter Kirmes, Wellenstein
Mix with the locals at the Moselle town of Wellenstein, which on Sunday and Monday hosts its annual summer fun fair. Music, entertainment and food and drink await visitors, with P&R shuttles available from the Remich train station. For details visit siw.lu or the event Facebook page.
