A 16-year-old boy drowned at a popular outdoor swimming spot in Remerschen on Tuesday, with emergency services unable to save the teenager's life after they were called to the scene.

A 16-year-old boy drowned at a popular outdoor swimming spot in Remerschen on Tuesday, with emergency services unable to save the teenager's life.
Emergency services were alerted around 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon. A group of first responders started the search. They were quickly reinforced by four divers who were airlifted to the site.
Despite the quick intervention emergency services were unable to find the boy alive. His body was recovered some time after the arrival of emergency services.
The teenager was at the lake as part of a holiday group activity. When the other participants lost sight of him at the lake they made the emergency call.
The group received psychological care in the wake of the accident.
The 16-year-old was a Malawian national, living at an asylum seeker home in Luxembourg City. According to RTL, the teenager could not swim and slipped and fell into the water at a spot not suitable for swimming.
The area of the ponds declared safe for swimming is monitored by life guards.
The tragic incident comes just over a week after a man's body was pulled from the Lac de la Haute Sûre, in the north of Luxembourg.
