(ADW) Relief is coming to the large hectic roundabout at the end of Avenue Kennedy in Kirchberg, as construction for a 360-metre bypass tunnel underneath it connecting directly to the A1 motorway is in full swing.
In November when is should be complete, the new tunnel under big “Serra” roundabout as it is called, renowned for the huge rusty metal monolith rising from it, will lead straight onto the Arlon direction of the A1 motorway.
Up until now, drivers from the city centre have had to queue and battle it out with drivers heading in all directions around the roundabout, then join the motorway to “Contournement”, before finding the right way to the A1.
The new lanes will lead from Avenue Kennedy and Rue Joseph Hackin to the right-side of the roundabout passing through the 360-metre tunnel, directly onto the motorway.
The relief to the Serra roundabout itself should be immediately noticeable once the new route opens.
We won't have to wait long for the tunnel as the completion of the transformation is forecast for early November this year.
The end result for Serra, is a transformation into what is being dubbed a “turbo roundabout”.
