Youngsters from a Luxembourg crèche learned the importance of giving when they hand delivered clothing and toys to children their own age at an asylum seeker centre.
Altogether five children from the Sunflower Montessori Crèche visited Foyer St Antoine on route d'Arlon on Thursday, bearing baby and children's clothing, toys, books, DVDs and a home-made cake for the youngsters living at the centre.
“It was really lovely. The children made friends with each other and sang songs together,” explained one of the initiative's coordinators, Claire-Louise Walsh, adding: “Language wasn't an issue.”
The visit came at the end of an appeal to parents for donations jointly launched by GivingAtLux and the Sunflower Montessori Crèche.
The appeal, made in May, bore fruit with parents donating generously, even giving new toys for the collection.
Foyer St Antoine currently houses around 70 asylum seekers, of which 15 are children. Around nine children from the foyer participated in an arts and craft session with the youngsters from the crèche before eating cake together.
“I think it was a really successful day and we would like to thank everybody who had us at the foyer. Also we would like to thank the Sunflower parents for all their donations. They were very generous,” Claire-Louise said.
