Visitors and residents to Hesperange and Howald can now travel around the commune using only electric power, thanks to the launch of a fleet of e-bikes and electric cars.
A total 18 bikes and four electric cars are to be made available to the public, in a bid to encourage sustainable mobility in an area which is becoming increasingly congested.
Members of the public can rent the bikes from three different stations with or without reserving using a mobicard.
This card can be obtained from the Hesperange town hall reception and requires a 250-euro deposit on a credit card.
Users will receive a five-minute demonstration about how to use the bike after which they can hop on and get pedalling.
Bike stations
E-bike stations will be located in Place Pol Jomé in Hesperange and Rue des Bruyères and Rue Ferdinand Kuhn in Howald.
The bikes reach speeds of up to 25 km/hr and come with seven gears. The battery on each bike allows travel of between 35 and 50 kilometres before they need to be recharged at one of the three stations.
The commune offers three types of payment plan: 7.50 euros per month for annual subscribers, 10 euros per month for monthly subscribers and 2 euros per hour without subscription.
Electric car fleet
For people who are less confident on two wheels, four electric BMW i3s will be made available to the public at the beginning of August, to be parked in four stations in Howald and Itzig.
Users must register at the town hall and cars must be returned to the station from which they were collected.
An annual subscription costs 12 euros per month, 20 euros per month for one month only or 35 cents per minute without a subscription.
