(ADW) Police
were called to help rescue a dog left in a parked car in the sun on
Sunday. The temperature inside the vehicle was reported to have
reached 45°C.
According
to witnesses the poor animal was in the car on Rue Alexandre Fleming at least 45 minutes becoming a veritable furnace under blazing sun.
With
no trace of the owner nearby, the police intervened and smashed a
window of the car to free the dog.
The
owner has now received a warning and fine for a double offence as
the car was also parked in a no parking area.
In
summer, a dog left in a car in direct sunlight without ventilation
can easily die from the heat. Temperatures inside a car directly in
the sun can quickly hit temperatures of 60°C . Even parking in the
shade can be too hot for a dog.
A
pet should never be left in a car during hot weather. Luxembourg is a
country that is very accommodating to dogs, more than many other
countries in places such as shops, bars and public places. You can
probably take your four-legged friend with you in most cases.
