(CS) The Luxembourg Foreign Ministry has said that Greece remains a safe country to visit despite the turmoil surrounding the country's EU bailout programme, although travellers should carry sufficient cash.
In a statement issued Monday, the Foreign Ministry acknowledged a risk of demonstrations or strike action in Greece as the government is butting heads with EU leaders over the next steps in its bailout programme.
Tourists are urged to be vigilant should such a situation arise.
On the whole, however, the country remains perfectly safe, it said.
Capital controls, limiting the amount of money people can withdraw from their accounts, do not apply to foreign-issued cards but also to local Greek bank cards, the ministry said.
With banks in Greece expected to be closed for the week, and with cash points quickly running out of money, it is recommended that tourists bring sufficient funds for their holiday.
