A motorist faced a terrifying wait to be rescued after the car she was driving plunged into the Alzette river near Colmar-Berg.
Emergency services received reports about the accident in Cruchten at around 9.30pm on Thursday.
According to police, the driver had lost control of the car and veered off the road, down an embankments and into the river.
The woman was released from the car by firefighters and taken to hospital.
The car, meanwhile, had to be lifted out of the water the following morning once it became light enough.
The road was completely closed during the recovery.
