Luxembourg's Police force should to see its numbers swell by 320 over the next three years under a new strategy announced on Monday.
But finding the right candidates may not be as easy as it sounds.
Responding to a parliamentary question, Internal Security Minister Etienne Schneider pointed out that out of candidates recruited in recent years, a growing number are dropping out of the training process.
Out of 65 people recruited in 2013, only 48 are still in training and out of the 50 hired in 2014, only 37 remain.
Earlier this year, the minister announced plans to recruit 80 new police officers in 2015 in order to ensure public safety.
A total 360 applications were submitted in April 2015. Candidates will take a test in July and undergo a fitness and psychological test before being selected.
They must then undergo a two-year training course before becoming officers in September 2017.
