The retired head of a Luxembourg international school received the ultimate honour last week when she collected her MBE at Buckingham Palace for services to British Education and the British community in Luxembourg.
Heather Duxbury, former Primary Head Teacher of St George’s International School Luxembourg-Hamm, received her MBE award from Prince Charles on Friday, June 12.
“It was amazing to hold a personal conversation with the Prince of Wales: to feel that he was genuinely interested in me and that he was presenting me with this prestigious award.” she said, adding: “I then had the opportunity to watch the rest of the presentation, absorb the atmosphere and admire my award.”
Mrs Duxbury was one of a handful of people to receive awards in the ballroom at Buckingham Palace in London, in the UK.
She said: “My one regret of the day is that all the many people who were part of the team that helped me to gain this award could not be there to share the day. Truly a day never to forget.”
Mrs Duxbury headed the lower school for more than half of the school's existence, from 2001 to 2014. During that time, it grew to 650 students and a new secondary school and sixth form were created.
Shortly after retiring in 2014, Heather was listed in the 2015 New Year's Honours List.
Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) is one of five classes of awards appointed by the British monarch.
