Two nifty knitters have come up with a crafty concept to help people get out and about and make new friends in Luxembourg – the PicKnit.
Camille Alexandre and Cristina Picco conceived the idea to combine their passion for knitting and their inter-generational business “Mamie et Moi”, to inspire others to have a bite to eat and knit together in parks.
"We have always considered knitting as a way to build social links between people," Camille said, adding: "It is for this reason that we created “Mamie et Moi”."
The first PicKnit took place on June 3 and plenty more are planned over the summer with one on June 13, at Parc Merl, in Luxembourg City.
Participants can be complete beginners to knitting or professionals, all are welcome and the “Mamies” or grandmother knitters who work for the entrepreneurs are on-hand to offer advice and guidance. Wool and needles are provided.
“Mamie et Moi” was founded as a children's clothing firm, selling hand-knitted retro-style items.
The entrepreneurs pay a group of active and friendly “grannies” to manufacture the items, providing them with an extra income while enabling them to keep busy and practice their favourite hobby.
Each item sold comes with a note signed by the “granny” knitter which reads “Knitted with care and attention.”
