(CS/jm) The Luxembourg government at a cabinet meeting on Friday greenlighted a project to found as institute of contemporary history.
The new institute should open its doors in July next year, Education State Secretary Marc Hansen said in a press conference last week.
It will bring together the “Centre Robert Schuman”, the “Centre virtuel de la connaissance sur l'Europe”, as well as the research departments of the “Centre de documentation de et de recherche sur l'enrôlement forcé” and the “Centre de documentation et de recherche sur la résistance”.
The new institute will research Luxembourg contemporary history, with a focus on European integration, the Second World War, the development from industry to a service-oriented economy, and media history.
The institute will be based at the University of Luxembourg as an interdisciplinary research centre. The university will also select the director.
Results obtained through research are hoped to find their way into public debate, Hansen said, as well as the being integrated into continued teacher training.
