Cyclists could be able to cycle the full length of the Luxembourg Moselle on a dedicated cycle path, separate from the road, thanks to plans to expand existing facilities.
According to Luxembourg Infrastructure Minister François Bausch, construction of a cycle path between Ahn and Machtum, the only section which does not have one, could be completed by July 2016.
“The project consists of the construction of a 3,100 metre bicycle path, measuring three metres in width, along the edge of the Moselle and the shrinking of the N10 to develop a green strip and guardrail,” the minister said responding to a parliamentary question.
He added that the cycle path will be a separate track, which will “significantly improve the cyclists' sense of security and contribute to the attractiveness of cycling along the Moselle.”
If all the necessary rights of way for the project are acquired and licences are issued, construction of the track could begin towards the end of the current year or in early 2016.
The total cost is expected to be around 3 million euros.
