From Sunday onwards, six
brand new rail bikes will be
available for visitors to pedal along the old mining train track at Fond-de-Gras in the south of Luxembourg.
The device, known as "vélorails",
which actually better describes them than bikes, they have space for four
adults and run between Fond-de-Gras and Bois de Rodange.
"If
you ride slowly, it will take you about 15 minutes to get to the end"
says Erny Muller, vice president of Minettpark and the alderman of
Differdange.
The new vélorails will
be officially inaugurated on Thursday and made available to the
general public from Sunday.
The six vélorails
will run at certain times, and a few minutes apart so they are not
bunched together along the track.
Once the Bois de Rodange
destination is reached, a rotating mechanism turns the the bikes
around before riders can pedal back to the start.
The vélorails will
be operational until the end of the season, that is until the end of
September. "The objective is to acquire a first experience for
the next tourist season," says Frédéric Humbel, coordinator of
the Fond-de-Gras site.
