Sporty students from St George's International School in Luxembourg finished second at the Primary Alicante Invitation Cup in Spain last week.
The youngsters competed against schools from Spain, Turkey and Kazakhstan in football, athletics and track and field events.
On the first day, both the boys and girls teams were placed in third position in football, with the boy’s team missing out on playing the finals by a single goal difference.
Despite being edged into second place for track and field, by Madrid, the Luxembourg team won gold medals in boys’ high jump, cricket ball throw, 200m, 400m and 800m and in the girls’ 400m.
Silver medals were won for boys’ 4x100m relay and high jump and in the girls’ 800m and 100m. Points were also gained in the finals with fourth place in the boys’ long jump, girls’ high jump and girls’ 400m, fifth place in girls’ 800m, 6th place in boys’ 100m and seventh places for the boys’ 400m and 800m.
All the teams’ efforts allowed them to finish second place in the overall competition, with King’s College Madrid taking the Invitation Cup trophy.
During the same week, St George's Secondary School's COBIS team travelled to Athens, Greece to participate in the COBIS Games at the prestigious Olympic Centre.
There they were among 16 teams competing over a wide range of track and field events. After a tough three days of sport, Dubai College proved to be the strongest team taking first place overall.
The St George’s COBIS team demonstrated great sportsmanship skills and worked very hard competing against a number of very strong teams.
