(CS) With a record number of people taking part in the 10th anniversary edition of the “Relais pour la Vie”, the event was also able to raise a record sum of money for cancer charities.
Some 10,088 people took part in this year's edition of the 24-hour relay event, with many more joining the event on the sidelines to show their solidarity.
It was the first time that over 10,000 people were on the tracks at the Coque leisure centre to walk or run as part of a sponsored team.
The total sum raised in 2015 was 322,696 euros, of which 97 percent will go to the Fondation Cancer and its work in research, information and support of people suffering from cancer and their families. The remaining 3 percent will be donated to the US parent initiative.
The number of people involved in the event has seen an impressive rise since the “Relais pour la Vie” was first hosted in 2006. Back then, 3,170 people signed up, raising 60,000 euros.
Combined, the ten Relay for Life events hosted in Luxembourg have raised over 1.7 million euros.
