From Monday a test phase of a new patient database for healthcare professionals is being rolled out across Luxembourg.
The “Dossier de Soins Partagé” (DSP) or shared care kit is an electronic health record containing a patient's entire health-related medical history.
The idea is to enable health professionals to have all relevant information about a patient's past in order to decide the best treatment for them.
Medical information on the DSP is managed either by the patient directly or by a trusted healthcare professional such as a GP.
It does not replace the medical records held by institutional or individual healthcare professionals.
Rather, it offers a complementary eHealth platform to which the patient decides who has access.
Relevant information
The DSP will hold information which healthcare professionals consider relevant for the patient's medical and healthcare treatment.
It is not compulsory but comes strongly recommended.
In a first pilot phase, the DSP will be rolled out among patients who have an agreement with a long-term GP, known in Luxembourg as a “médecin référent”, thought to be the case for around 22,500 patients.
From September, patients who have not signed a convention with a long-term GP may volunteer to participate in a second pilot phase.
