The big Luxembourg railways (CFL) workshop buildings that
dominated one side of Rocade de Bonnevoie street in the City, are no more. And
they came down at an impressive speed!
The workshops have been in operation since the 1950s, and
have witnessed the railway expansion as well as the slump CFL suffered in the second
half of the twentieth century.
Steam locomotives, diesel-powered trains, and the
current electric trains all passed through the buildings.
Each of the workshops was 223 meters long and 60 meters wide
and all played an integral part of the country's railway history.
By the end of the year, the space will be totally empty to
make may for two new platforms to cater for three new train lines. This will
greatly increase Luxembourg City’s central station capacity.
