Medieval Combat may be old but that does not to mean it is out-dated, as a team of Luxembourg combatants at the World Championships are showing.
From April 30 to May 3, the national team will be among 500 fighters from 30 countries around the world competing in the second Medieval Combat World Championships at Malbork Castle in Poland.
Medieval Combat as a sport traces its roots back to the high and late Middle Ages, when it was practised by nobility.
But, it appears to be making a come-back and is gaining momentum as a popular sporting discipline.
Both men and women may compete as contestants in separate challenges involving sword and shield, longsword and halberd (a two-handed pole weapon complete with axe-blade and spike).
Luxembourg is competing in a number of categories. Follow the tournament on www.facebook.com
