Luxembourg film 'Gutland' selected for Toronto film festival

The Luxembourg Film "Gutland"
has been nominated for the Toronto International Film Festival
in the category "Discovery,” it was announced on Wednesday.
The feature film by the
Luxembourg director and screenwriter Govinda Van Maele is a
production from the company "Les Films Fauves" located in
Differdange. Van Maele won the "Lëtzebuerger Filmpreis"
in 2012 with "En Dag am Fräien"(A day in the open) in the
category "Bester Kurzfilm" (Best short film).
Gutland
is his first feature film and is described as a surrealist film noir
about a young German thief who flees to a small village in Luxembourg
and discovers that the locals have secrets of their own. The main
character,
Jens Fauser, is played by German actor Frederick Lau. The film is supported financially by the Film Fund Luxembourg.
The festival in Toronto
runs from September 7 to 17 and Gutland will be screened on Friday 8.
The aim of the event is to discover emerging filmmakers boosting
their route to the international film industry.
This will be the second film for Luxembourg to selected in Toronto, as the co-production "The Breadwinner" was chosen in the first wave of festival announcements.
