(JB) Ettelbrück's politicians are to implement a seven-step safety programme to make their community more secure in the wake of the stabbing of a 64-year-old man.
The project was approved at a municipal council meeting on Monday night and, among other things, will result in the creation of safety forums to identify problem areas and then, with police, measures will be implemented to resolve them.
The concept of streetworkers will be developed further alongside the introduction of a new project called Youth4Work, helping young people find meaningful work.
Increased security patrols
Rail operators CFL will increase security staff around the main train station, meanwhile, police presence is to be stepped up both in the centre of Ettelbrück and by the Intervention Centre in Diekirch.
In order to be transparent and involve national politicians, the local authority plans to host a public debate on security involving Minister of Internet Security Etienne Schneider and Health Minister Lydia Mutsch.
Night lighting
Ettelbrück is widely known for its psychiatric care centres. The municipal council wants a review on how patients not interned at the centres but who visit them are cared for.
Finally, certain urban areas are to be better lit at night.
The entire programme is to be reviewed on a regular basis with the town and its leaders. A first report should be published before the end of the year.
