Forcibly deported with their family at the end of November last year, two Albanians have returned to Luxembourg and been here for ten days now. Do they have the right to remain? The Foreign Ministry would not comment on the matter.
The two sisters, aged 11 and 17, were forcibly expelled on November 27, 2014 and sent back to Albania on a charter flight. On board the aircraft were 34 failed asylum seekers, from eight families (including 18 minors) and a single person, forced to return to Albania and Montenegro. Both girls attended Luxembourg schools for five years and had many friends in the Grand Duchy.
According to a statement by the family, they had great difficulties in Albanian school once back in their country of origin. The youngest, in particular, had problems with the Albanian language and the curriculum.
The fact that the two girls are back in Luxembourg is not surprising at all, explained Laura Zuccoli, the president of immigrant workers association ASTI. "This is what happens when children live for a long time in a country. This is a dramatic situation, the parents finally took a difficult decision for their daughters. "
The President ASTI continued: "We demand a clear and transparent regulation by the Luxembourg government,” referring to an imminent change in Germany stating that if a child has been in school for four years, then they have the right to stay in the country. “The Luxembourg government has to find a legal response for this case”, said Laura Zuccoli.
Communications Officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nicolas Gierten simply referred to a joint press conference to be held by Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn and Family Minister, Corinne Cahen, at the end of the month focusing on immigration.
