Luxembourg's vehicle certification agency and the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure have decided to suspend the full homologation for the Porsche Cayenne model, equipped with the 3.0L turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engine, 193 kW, Euro 6.
The German carmaker is no longer authorised to sell the diesel-powered model in Luxembourg following tests that revealed the presence of a 'defeat device'
until it meets European regulations.
A 'defeat device' -- or software in diesel engines -- can detect when a car is being tested, and change its performance accordingly to improve results.
The current suspension doesn't affect vehicles for which a conformity certificate has already been issued or cars already in use. These vehicles might be recalled at a later stage for an update by local car dealers, the ministry said.
