Luxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna this week attended high level meetings with key players in international finance during a trip to Boston and New York.
Gramegna met with officials from Brown Brothers Harriman, State Street Corporation, New York Life, JP Morgan Chase, KKR and Goldman Sachs, among others, in a bid to promote Luxembourg as a financial centre.
He said: "The financial world is facing many challenges. I wanted to meet with key players in international finance to discuss with them their international development strategy and the role that Luxembourg can play in this regard. Our financial system has many strengths, I wanted them to be aware and appreciate them."
The interviews form part of Luxembourg government's strategy for more transparency. But, it was also a chance for finance chiefs to gain an insight into the current issues of European policy, with Luxembourg ideally situated, as it is in the heart of Europe and a founding member of the EU.
“Our country is perceived in this regard as a respected mediator; its clout should not be underestimated,” the minister said.
Among his appointments, the minister spoke at a press conference organised by Luxembourg's investment funds association ALFI and private equity association AEPA. And he participated in a Luxembourg for Finance seminar where he talked about Luxembourg's role in the globalisation of the renminbi.
The minister's next stop will be Washington DC, where he will take part in general meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
