Petition launched for holiday following death of a pet

For many people a pet is like a family member, but does that justify a legal holiday when they die? A public petition launched on the Chamber of Deputies website on Thursday calls for just that.

Six new petitions have been opened at the Chamber of Deputies which can be signed by any registered Luxembourg citizen. The first petition listed stands out amongst the others. It raises the topic that workers should be allowed a legal day off following the death of a pet.

The petition states that after adopting a pet, you become their master and spend each day caring, nurturing and playing with them. You pay for their food and any visits to the vet they may need. It becomes part of your family and to some, especially people without children, the pet seems like a family member.
