Luxembourg facing major shortage of primary school teachers

In Luxembourg, would-be primary school teachers must go through a stringent evaluation process known as the 'concours'. Since 2015, however, the number of candidates has more than halved.

According to the Luxembourg government's teacher recruitment plan, more than 290 new posts are expected to become available in elementary schools for the coming school year.

Only 160 teachers have been recruited, however, as no additional candidates have taken part in the so-called Concours, a stringent teacher evaluation process.
