In January this year there were 170 different nationalities living in Luxembourg.
And while Luxembourg City is known for being the area with the highest percentage of foreigners, a new study has revealed the communes where there are more foreigners than Luxembourgers.
Figures from the statistics office Statec are based on data from January 1 gained via the
Registre National des Personnes Physiques (national register of physical persons).
Luxembourg's foreign population now stands at 47.7 per cent of the population -- up from 46.7 per cent from the beginning of 2016.
Luxembourg City is still foreigners' preferred area to live (70.7 per cent), followed by Strassen (61.6 per cent) and Hesperange (54.1 per cent).

The eighth most populous nationality, and the first from outside the EU, is Montenegrin (0.7 per cent).

Of the non-Luxembourgish citizens, 17.3 per cent were born in the Grand-Duchy and 12.3 per cent of Luxembourgers living here were born elsewhere. Luxembourgish nationality is only given at birth if one of the parents holds Luxembourg citizenship.
A total of 15.2 per cent of people born in Luxembourg do not have Luxembourish nationality and 14 per cent of people born outside of the country are Luxembourgish.
