The chief Brexit negotiator of the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt, has warned that the UK government's current offer to EU citizens would be rejected by MEPs.
Writing in the Guardian on Sunday, Verhofstadt called the UK's offer, which came three weeks after EU Commission negotiator Michel Barnier's proposals were unveiled, a "damp squib" that gave EU citizens in the UK fewer rights than British citizens in the EU.
