Luxembourg City's town hall was completely greened out on Monday as part of global event The Greening, to celebrate Irish holiday St Patrick's Day.
Normally, the impressive building is lit with colourless lamps but on Monday night green gels were placed on the lights, which were then switched on at 8pm.
“Our Greening in Luxembourg, like each and every Greening around the World, is an expression of friendship as well as an open invitation to visit Ireland. We wish our many good friends in Luxembourg a very Happy St Patrick’s Day,” Ireland's Ambassador to Luxembourg Diarmuid O'Leary said.
The Greening 2014 was organised by Tourism Ireland. Luxembourg City's town hall was one of around 100 iconic sites around the world to be lit in green. Others include the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Wall of China, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Niagara Falls, Sydney Opera House, Table Mountain in South Africa, Petra in Jordan and the Grand Place in Brussels.
“This Greening in Luxembourg could not take place without the approval and assistance of the Bourgmestre, Madame Lydie Polfer. I take this opportunity to thank Madame Polfer and her colleagues at the “Ville de Luxembourg” for their enthusiastic support for our initiative. Thank you also to Tourism Ireland for their invaluable support,” the Ambassador said.
If you missed The Greening in Luxembourg, fear not. The town hall will also be lit in green on Tuesday.
