A young woman in Luxembourg has been fined 5,000 euros and banned from looking after animals for three years after neglecting four horses and a pony, resulting in the death of one animal.
A court heard on Thursday that the 22-year-old had virtually abandoned the animals in a muddy field in Ersange without shelter, food or water.
A vet confirmed that the owner had not given the animals daily care. The creatures were reportedly moved to new fields in Huncherange where their situation did not improve. They were given shelter and water but had little space to roam and the field was even muddier than the first.
The area was also surrounded by a barbed wire fence on which one animal injured itself so badly, it had to be put down, a vet explained.
