Luxembourg prepares for Santa invasion on December 7

The biggest Santa-themed pub crawl in the world is to land in Luxembourg on December 7 when the capital's streets and bars are expected to be filled with hundreds of jolly Santas enjoying a winter tipple.
The event, which is part of a global movement founded 20 years ago in San Francisco, invites members of the public to participate in a festive invasion dressed as Santa Claus or other Christmas-themed characters.
“I arrived just in time for Duke's night and immediately thought that Luxembourg really knew how to party,” SantaCon Luxembourg organiser “Santa Amy” told wort.lu/en, adding: “But, then I saw that there was no Luxembourg event. I thought it should really happen here.”
Amy said that with its Christmas markets and decorations, the capital serves as the perfect setting for a gathering of hundreds of Santas. And, having contacted various bars in the capital, she and a team of volunteers are looking forward to rolling out Luxembourg's first SantaCon from noon on December 7.
To take part, members of the public should turn up, dressed as Santa or any other festive characters, at any of the four specified locations – the Grund, Palace, Clausen and Place d'Armes - at given times for photographs. Participants are then given two to three hours to visit bars in each area before moving on to the next photo point.
“The concept is to keep people together to achieve a critical mass of Santas, but keep things moving throughout town. And, of course, people can choose to go out as Santa in other locations and/or to bars not technically 'participating' in the event,” Amy said, adding: “In fact, I hope they do. I really hope that hundreds of people show up on the streets of Luxembourg dressed as Santas, snowmen, reindeer, presents and Christmas trees and take over every bar.”
Further details of the itinerary should follow shortly on the website. The SantaCon Luxembourg website also includes information and apps on responsible drinking.
