A bus ticket conductor who was assaulted by a passenger says he was given the brush-off by an operator on the emergency helpline.
The victim was injured while working on the Pétange-Luxembourg line at around 6.40am on Thursday. He reportedly asked to see a passenger's ticket and the passenger lashed out and hit him.
The assailant was quickly apprehended by another controller when, while trying to flee, he tripped and struck his head on the bus windshield by accident.
However, when the men, who work for bus operator TICE, dialled 113 for assistance, the emergency service operator was reluctant to send out a patrol.
According to the conductor the 113 operator said: “Dir vum Tice gidd mir déck op de Sak, Ech ginn Iech d'Nummer vun der Escher Police, da rufft Dir do un."
Literally translated, he said: “You TICE workers are a pain in the arse. I'll give you the number for the police in Esch. You can call them.”
TICE president Henri Hinterscheid has been informed of the incident. The conductor who was assaulted, meanwhile, is now on sick leave.
There has been no comment by emergency services on the incident.
