An online video simulation offers visitors a sneak peek at how Luxembourg's city hall will look following completion of major renovation works.
The Place Guillaume II project, which was designed by architects Nico Steinmetz and Arnaud de Meyer, focused on renovating the complex of Luxembourg City buildings in the square and in rue Notre Dame.
It involves the creation of a glass walkway, adjoining two buildings, a new citizen administrative hub or “Bierger Centre”, an exhibition space, banquet halls and meeting rooms as well as offices for the town hall.
The video takes viewers on a virtual tour of the finished site, hovering over the complex and gliding through its immaculate corridors.
The project has been in the running for nearly 10 years, following the acquisition of buildings in rue Notre Dame. It has caused some controversy with a citizens' initiative which fears that the development will ruin the square's architectural heritage.
