(ADW) In 2012 resident business tourism reached a figure of 18.1 percent in Luxembourg, according to data released Monday by Statec.
Nearly one in five residents, aged 20 and over, have made at least one business trip with at least one night stopover. After a slight decline in 2010, business trips rose slightly in 2011, and in 2012 the reached the highest level in 10 years.
On the whole 273,000 business trips were made in 2012.
Some 18 percent of residents embarked on a business trip including at least one night last year, corresponding to 77,000 people. In the area of leisure and tourism, the rate is a whopping 81 percent or 342,000 people.
The intensity of business travel is also linked to nationality. The results show that 14 percent are Luxembourgish, while 40 percent are Belgian residents, 33 percent German and 32 percent residents of French nationality.
Far less business travel is done by Italian residents at 12 percent and surprisingly even less for the Portuguese living in Luxembourg at six percent.
