(CS) The bank holiday weekend was marked by break-ins and burglaries across Luxembourg, with suspects in Rollingen stealing 50 euros from a piggy bank.
On Saturday, police reported three break-ins that had taken place on November 1. In Luxembourg City unknown suspects entered a house through the front door some time between 2.30pm and 5.50pm.
Later in the day, around 9.20pm in Soleuvre, unknown suspects entered a house through a French door and stole jewellery.
In Belvaux meanwhile a woman was able to scare off burglars who were trying to break into a butcher's shop on the ground floor of an apartment block. The resident surprised the suspects who fled the scene.
In the early hours of November 2, a television and dolby surround sound system, as well as several DVDs, were stolen from a home in Bettembourg.
Later in the day, between 4pm and 7pm another break-in was reported in Bettembourg, with further burglaries in Buschdorf, Reisdorf, where an elderly resident was able to surprise the burglar who then fled, and Hautcharage, where a home as broken into through a ground-floor window. However, the rooms looked untouched and police assume the suspect was disturbed and fled the scene in the hurry.
In Rollingen, near Mersch, unknown suspects broke a piggy bank and stole 50 euros between 5.10pm and 9.45pm.
Earlier this week, police had warned Luxembourg residents to pay special attention to secure their homes, with autumn traditionally bringing a rise in break-ins, as darkness falls earlier.
