Enjoy the long weekend with some theatre straight from London, lots of live music, brand-new and classic cinema, as well as a photography exhibition that gives new meaning to the words street art.

PERFORMING ARTS
November 2: NT Live – 50 years on stage, Ciné Utopia, 8pm
Celebrate 50 years of the National Theatre London with a live stream straight from the UK capital of a gala night, featuring excerpts from plays of the theatres five decade long history, as well as several special guests, from Judi Dench and Helen Mirren to Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes. CINEMA
November 1 – 3: Cinémathèque
This weekend starts with comedy classic Get Shorty, starring Gene Hackman, John Travolta and Danny DeVito, on Friday at 6.30pm. The English-language programme then continues on Sunday at 3pm with Bernardo Bertolucci's historical epic The Last Emperor, followed at 8.30pm by classic 1939 film Stagecoach. November 3: Ciné Breakfast, Ciné Utopia, 10.30am
Start your Sunday with a cinematic breakfast at Utopia in Limpertsberg. Coffee and croissants are served starting 10.30am and films start at 11am, with new Steve Carell comedy The Way Way Back and blockbuster Thor – The Dark World among the line-up of five films. For full details click here.
MUSIC
November 2: The Temperance Movement, Soulkitchen, doors open 8pm
Bluesy rock band The Temperance Movement from the UK will play a small and intimate gig at Soulkitchen on Saturday evening. Formed in 2011 the band released their first EP in 2012 and their first full-length record in September 2013. The band is supported by Joshua James. For tickets visit atelier.lu
November 3: Texas, Rockhal, doors open 7pm
Scottish band Texas are returning to Luxembourg after their 2011 gig at Rock um Knuedler. For their 25th anniversary the band released a new album, The Conversation, will they will also bring to the Grand Duchy, together with their older hits. The band Girl Called Johnny will kick off the night at 8.30pm and Texas is scheduled to take to the stage at 9.30pm. Tickets were still available on rockhal.lu at the time of publication.
November 3: MS MR, Den Atelier, doors open 8pm
US electro indie folk duo MS MR presented their debut album Secondhand Rapture earlier this year, after releasing EP Candy Bar Creep Show in 2012. Originally from New York, this is the first time that chillwave fans in the Grand Duchy can catch the group, whose sound has been compared to the likes of Florence & the Machine, live. Until November 4: Was ist wichtig, Abbaye de Neumünster
Three photographers explore values and their meaning in different European contexts. The artists explore minority communities – strangers in their own country – but also those who chose to live differently, as well as travelling to the very edges of Europe in a bid to find out what defines Europeans and what makes them different.
Until December 1: Miradas desde lo oculto, Konschthaus “Beim Engel”
The Konschthaus “Beim Engel” in Rue de la Loge shows an exciting photography project until December, where children and teenagers from impoverished neigbourhoods in Buenos Aires were given cameras to capture their everyday lives, giving a whole new perspective on slum life and a new meaning to street art.
Until December: MOI par TOI, Tunnel am Gronn
If you're going for a walk in Luxembourg City this weekend, don't skip the “Tunnel am Gronn”, which leads to the St Esprit elevator. Portraits from European School students give an insight into the lives of 22 teenagers and how they see their lives.
