(ADW) After more than two hours of talks, the leaders of the DP, LSAP and Déi Gréng announced that they have now found a common programme. The way is now open for a coalition of three.
"Today's meeting had nothing to do with negotiations for a possible coalition" stated DP head Xavier Bettel, when leaving the meeting on Tuesday, "we talked in order to find common ground in our respective electoral programmes and it's done!"
"We now await the decision of the Grand Duke", added Etienne Schneider, head of the LSAP.
Asked whether "hot topics" were discussed such as indexation or unemployment, Xavier Bettel replied: "What you call hot topics are not, we only discussed the outline of different programmes to find a common ground”.
"We have initiated discussions today so as not to waste time later”, explained Etienne Schneider.
"The goal is not to leave the country without a government for three months", stated Déi Gréng leader Francois Bausch, "once negotiations have started, discussions will intensify.”
"We hope that a government will be established by December", Schneider said before Bettel concluded "We do not intend to discuss with other parties because we have now found common ground”.
On Wednesday, the executive committees of the three parties will meet separately to inform their members of the Tuesday evening discussion results.
