Hundreds of little ghouls descended on Bertrange on Saturday, where they went door-to-door gathering sugary treats for Halloween.
The annual “trick or treat” event was organised by the American Women's Club Luxembourg (AWCL) for its members and children living in the area to bring a little bit of the US to Luxembourg. This year more than 400 youngsters took part, dressed as devils, witches and pirates among other creepy Halloween characters.
Members of the AWCL distributed sweets among participating homes and also sold hotdogs and soft drinks to ensure the youngsters didn't overdose on sugar.
Altogether, the event helped to raise more than 4,000 euros for the Fisher House Foundation, providing free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centres.
“The trick or treat event gives the children living overseas a chance to participate in one of the American traditions,” AWCL President Connie Gomez told wort.lu/en.
This year the event was organised by new member Lilla Schotner. The AWCL welcomes new members of any nationality to assist at its events. Its next fundraiser will be “Gifts for Kids”, in which firms and individuals can sponsor St Nicolas gifts for underpriviledged children to be distributed on December 6.
