(CS) Just after the last projections came in on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker said that his party remains the strongest in Luxembourg and the CSV wants to lead coalition talks.
While the admitted that the party has lost support since 2009, he commented that the CSV continues to be the biggest party in all four districts.
Juncker explained that the party had reached its goal, which was to reach at least 22 seats, the CSV's historic average. This goal has been reached, he said.
Additionally, the thanked his supporters and everyone who worked during the campaign to promote the CSV.
The Premier also congratulated the DP on their election success and said that round table talks with Luxembourg's other parties need to be held in the best interest of the Luxembourg public.
Xavier Bettel of the DP meanwhile commented that the Democratic Party is the winner of the day, adding that his party had done better than expected and that they are ready to take responsibility.
The LSAP's Etienne Schneider said at the party's HQ late on Sunday that there are options for the party to remain in government, but that he could also imagine being a strong opposition party.
