(MSS) Hoping to increase energy efficiency, ten communes have signed an agreement to implement a quality management system, which should help buildings, transport and general policies become even more sustainable.
The municipalities of the Redange canton in west Luxembourg are already known for their sustainable climate policy, having built Luxembourg's first bio-gas plant and implemented the European Sustainable Energy Management System to become self-reliant on energy from renewable sources, just to mention two examples.
The new climate pact is meant to help the community continue implementing energy efficient policies and projects systematically, allowing the municipalities to simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the supervision of a climate consultant and to be models for the citizens by showing them it's possible to renovate buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as their energy consumption and thereby save money.
All of Redange's communes are taking part. These are: Beckerich, Ell, Grosbous, Préizerdaul, Rambrouch, Redange, Saeul, Useldange, Vichten and Wahl.
Over 60 communes have already signed up. Find out who is taking part on pacteclimat.lu
Besides from doing something good for the climate, as well as saving money on energy, the Redange Canton has also predicted a rise in local employment, as buildings and homes will need to be renovated and renewable energy plants will need maintenance and operators.
