Hunting appears to be relatively widely accepted in Luxembourg, particularly in rural areas of the country, a survey suggests.
The TNS-Ilres survey commissioned by hunting body the Saint Hubert Federation polled 503 people in June this year.
The results show that more than a third of people were in favour of hunting by local authorities to manage animal populations. In addition, it showed that two thirds of respondents believed that game is a quality food and 80 percent agreed with the practice of hunting provided there is a legal framework in place.
The responses were not all positive, however. Respondents living in central and southern Luxembourg were more sceptical of the practice than those living in the north or east. Furthermore, 33 percent of respondents aged from 16 to 24 did not agree with the practice at all. Additionally, 50 percent of all those polled said that game did not compare to organic meat.
